Ragged and Hollow

Ragged and Hollow

Footsteps resound so alone,
     under the Moon’s bright night.
Highway asphalt retains,
     The day’s burning might.

Electric sparks under foot,
     worn boots and blacktop war.
Beneath this sorrow’s grim dark,
he reads her words once more.

Stillness with the precious paper,
     Ink runs with tear’s imprints.
His chest beats ragged and hollow,
just another heart with her fingerprints.
